I just had an “aha” moment about the BMW iX’s charging indicator lights, and I figured I’d share what I’ve learned. Hopefully, it’s helpful to someone else, and if I’ve got anything wrong, feel free to correct me!

Here’s what I’ve pieced together:
  • Blinking yellow = Waiting to connect.
  • Solid blue = Communicating with the charger.
  • Blinking blue = Actively charging (but if the car is locked, the blue light will go out after a few minutes).
  • Solid green = Fully charged to the set limit.
  • Blinking red = Fault or error during charging.
The part that threw me off was when I connected my iX to my home charger. The blue light was blinking (indicating charging), but after locking the car, it went out completely. After a bit of digging, I found out that’s normal, it’s just a quirk of the locked-car state.

Is this consistent with what others are seeing? And for those who’ve experienced the blinking red light, what was the issue, and how did you resolve it? Always curious to learn more about these little nuances!

That's an excellent observation! Thank you for your feedback on the iX's charging indicator lights. Your interpretation seems correct. It's interesting to note that the blue light can turn off when the car is locked, even while charging.

The blinking red light typically indicates a charging error or issue. This could be due to a variety of factors, including a faulty charging cable, a problem with the charging station, or a problem with the vehicle's charging system. If you encounter this, try troubleshooting the charging station or contacting BMW support for further assistance.

It's always useful to learn about these minor details, especially for those who are new to electric vehicles. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!
