I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. I'm moving to Europe for around two years and need to store my BMW iX at a friend's place. While I'm grateful for their help, I'm concerned about maintaining the battery health during this extended period.

I've already reached out to BMW, but their advice was quite generic. I'm wondering if there are any specific steps I should take or ask my friend to do, like charging to 100% for extended periods or using specific charging cycles.

Ok, so it's best not to fully charge your battery to 100% and then leave it unused for ages, as that can be hard on the battery. Instead, aim for somewhere between 30-60% if you’re storing it. You can ask your buddy or use an app to check the charge every week or so, esp during the first month, just to make sure it's not draining too much. It should only lose a tiny bit of charge each month if it’s not being used, alright? Also, it'd be smart for your buddy to take the car for a quick spin every couple of months to keep everything in good shape.

It might be worth taking it to a BMW service center for a health check. They can ensure the battery and other systems are in top condition before you leave. A 50-60% charge is ideal, and ask your friend to avoid letting it drop below 20%. Disable any energy-draining features like remote access through the app. For extra peace of mind, see if BMW offers a specific long-term storage mode in their settings.

How about letting your friend/family use your car?
