Sunroof cracked!!

I recently discovered a large crack in my sunroof. Since then, another crack has appeared. I've been struggling to find a repair shop that can fix the issue. BMW dealerships and body shops seem to be unsure about how to repair the sunroof. Some shops have quoted exorbitant prices for the repair. It seems that sunroof issues are a common problem with this model. I'm disappointed with the lack of support from BMW and the high potential cost of repairs. I'm sharing my experience to warn potential buyers about the potential risks associated with this vehicle.

I’ve read a few threads where folks with panoramic roofs had cracks appear out of nowhere. One thing to check: Is there any chance it could’ve been caused by extreme temperature changes? Sometimes rapid heating/cooling can stress the glass. I’d definitely escalate this with BMW corporate.

How did the repair go? Were you able to get it covered by insurance? If not, how much did it cost?

It's tough when you can't get clear answers or fair quotes for repairs. It’s definitely disappointing when a car maker doesn’t seem to offer much support. Hopefully they already found a solution!

This definitely seems like something to worry about for all of us with the special and delicate sunroof. It’s such a key feature, but it’s also one of those areas that requires extra care. Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious, but definitely worth keeping an eye on! Would be good to hear if anyone else has had similar issues

I just had my sunroof replaced on my 2024 IX. Never heard a rock hit it, but a crack all the way across happened. They have to remove the windshield also which cracked, so the total cost was $14,600! My insurance has paid for the sunroof replacement, but are fighting on the windshield part. Best of luck to you all. I am trading this in right away before it happens again.
