I just got my brand-new BMW iX, and while I love the car, I’ve noticed something odd since day one. The steering wheel itself feels mostly fine, but when I place my hands on the airbag area, I can sense a weird vibration. It’s not overwhelming, but it’s there, even on smooth roads.

The car doesn’t feel as smooth as I expected, which makes me wonder if it could be a tire balance or alignment issue. I’ve already checked the tire pressure, and it matches the recommended levels.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with their iX or other vehicles? Could this be related to something else entirely? I’d appreciate any thoughts or suggestions before I take it in for a check.

It seems like a wheel balancing issue! Given that your car is brand new, the dealership should be cool with doing a road force balance for you. When I picked up my iX, the alignment was spot on, and after nearly two years, it still holds up perfectly. If your tires have that fancy foam lining, there’s a slim chance a section could’ve shifted, messing with the balance.

It could be an issue with the steering wheel’s alignment, a loose airbag component, or even tire balancing...

Whoa, a vibrating airbag? That's definitely a new one! Sounds like your iX is trying to give you a little massage? Seriously though, that's odd. If it's not the tires, it could be something with the steering column or even a loose component in the airbag assembly. Maybe try feeling around the steering wheel while parked to see if you can pinpoint the source? If it's still there, yeah, definitely get it checked.
